Jofre Cullell shines in Corró d’Amunt in a race to frame
The cycling calendar had this Sunday one of the most special events of the year. The International Biking Point Catalan MTB Cup took place for the 23rd consecutive season in the Barcelona town of Corró d’Amunt. The circuit, hallmark of the event and one of its great assets, kept the same essence as always despite having undergone some slight modifications. The thermometer greeted the day with the mercury rubbing the zero degrees, despite the fact that the rain of the previous days had given way to a sunny sky.
The almost sixty runners who had been called up appeared as planned and the race started with strict punctuality. Jofre Cullell grabbed all the attention before the stopwatch was even started. The start was fast and Cullell was overtaken by a small group of riders who overpowered the BH Coloma Team star in the first few metres. Even so, Cullell took the lead soon after. From then on, the race became an infinite monologue; Cullell said goodbye to the rest of his rivals and rode alone until the end of the race.
Cullell dominated vehemently in a script without unexpected surprises. The Catalan rider’s pedal strokes opened a bigger and bigger hole with Thibaut Francois, the second classified rider, who also stood out from the first stages of the race. Francois pulled his trade and tried everything, but nothing was possible to change the situation and Cullell flew to the finish line to raise his arms and claim the victory.
Marta Cano dominates at ease and takes a crushing victory
The women’s race was led unchallenged by Marta Cano from the start. The Trek Future Racing rider gave a clear signal at the start with a pedal stroke that left the rest of the field behind. It soon became clear that Cano was the great candidate for victory, once completed a first lap that served to leave the race almost sentenced. It was time to continue to widen the gap and manage the superiority of the race.
Cano continued to ride at a superior pace and subjected her rivals to an unstoppable loss of seconds. Finally, the Catalan rider continued to add kilometres until she reached the finish line and celebrated an undisputed victory.
